MOTS-c begins inside mitochondrial genetics
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial 12S rRNA. Experimental research explores metabolic stress, skeletal-muscle signalling and communication between mitochondrial and nuclear biology.
A 2021 paper combined cell and animal experiments with exercise sampling in 10 young men. The human component measured endogenous MOTS-c around exercise; participants were not treated with an MOTS-c drug product.
Evidence should become more specific as a claim becomes more consequential.
Separate a biomarker observation from an intervention
When a study finds that exercise and an endogenous molecule change together, it can support a physiological relationship. It does not show that administering the molecule reproduces exercise, improves performance or changes a clinical outcome.
Animal experiments in the same publication reported physical-capacity findings in mice. Translational packages like this are valuable for forming hypotheses, but the human and mouse parts retain different evidence levels.

Administered-human evidence is the missing bridge
FDA reports no identified human exposure data for drug products containing administered MOTS-c and notes potential immunogenicity and peptide-characterization concerns.
The evidence does not establish a human dose, route, treatment effect or safety profile. Endogenous MOTS-c measurements also do not authenticate or predict the behaviour of a separately manufactured research material.
